Last month, Visit Raleigh’s Kathryn Short, CMP, traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to represent the destination at Rendezvous South. The appointment-based tradeshow is designed to connect meeting planners with destinations and suppliers across the Southeast. Known for its relationship-driven environment, the event balances pre-scheduled, one-on-one appointments with ample networking opportunities, creating space for meaningful conversations and real business discussions.

“Rendezvous South was a great reminder of the power of in-person conversations,” said Kathryn. “Planners were eager to connect, learn more about Raleigh, N.C.'s growth and explore how the destination can meet their future needs. They were especially excited to hear more about the Raleigh Convention Center expansion and the Raleigh area’s 14 MICHELIN‑recognized restaurants. The genuine interest and engagement made the show a very positive experience.”

Additionally, Kathryn noted that planners were especially impressed by the number of nonstop flight options available into RDU International Airport (more than 400 daily flights from 80+ nonstop destinations, including 10+ international), elevating Raleigh’s appeal as a convenient and accessible meetings destination.

Visit Raleigh showcased some of the destination by giving planners a piece of Raleigh to take home: Memaw’s Country Kitchen cookies by 1 in 6 Snacks. 1 in 6 Snacks gives back to local food banks, a detail that resonated strongly with planners who increasingly value purpose-driven choices and social impact. The simple, thoughtful activation created an authentic connection and gave attendees a sweet takeaway that will remind them of Raleigh.

Overall, Rendezvous South reinforced Raleigh, N.C.'s strengths as an accessible, flexible and authentic meetings destination. The one-on-one appointment format proved once again to be extremely valuable, supporting meaningful relationship-building with planners.
