Local husband-and-wife duo Jeff and Sarah Shepherd had a vision for a boutique hotel in Raleigh’s Historic Boylan Heights neighborhood. In 2018, they brought that vision to life with Heights House Hotel—a renovated 162-year-old property once known as Montfort Hall. The hotel now welcomes visitors from all over the country and is also available for private events!

Located at 308 S. Boylan Ave., the ~10,000-square-foot, Italianate-style mansion features nine guest rooms, 15-foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, large pocket doors, 10 fireplaces and grand common spaces—including a library and parlor. Additionally, the hotel sits on an acre lot with space for a 30-by-70-foot tent, fire pit and comfortable outdoor lounge areas.

This National and Raleigh Historic Landmark is one of the few remaining pre-Civil War houses in the area and makes for one of the most unique gathering sites. It can accommodate events such as weddings, private dinners, corporate parties, meetings or retreats, product staging, fundraising events, art shows, styled shoots, intimate concerts, workshops and more. The property can be rented Sun.-Thurs. for non-wedding events.

For event guests staying overnight, stays include a European-style breakfast offered in the home’s original dining room and front-porch terraces. House-made yogurt and granola is complemented by a full Counter Culture Coffee program and fresh pastries from Boulted Bread. Overnight guests may also inquire about seasonal room service options such as macaron ice cream sandwiches from lucettegrace in the summertime.

After an event, visitors can easily explore the City of Oaks. The hotel sits just steps from the center of Raleigh, making for an easy walk to the recently opened Sam Jones BBQ (one of America's most exciting restaurant openings of 2021), beautiful Dorothea Dix Park (among the most important urban park projects in Tar Heel State history) and the historic Boylan Bridge and adjacent Wye Hill Kitchen & Brewing (with one of the best views of downtown Raleigh).
