Just as Raleigh and Wake County continue to grow, GRCVB is growing within its ranks. Last week we welcomed Abigail Bekele to the Bureau as our social media coordinator. She will be working alongside assistant director of marketing and communications Michael Robson to execute new and exciting social media strategies/tactics year-round.
Abigail brings experience from the agency world to our marketing team, and we are excited to get her out into the county meeting and working with hospitality partners. We asked her a few questions to introduce herself in the Tourism Talk blog.
Tell us about your education and professional background.
I am originally from outside Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to North Carolina, where I attended Guilford College for my bachelor's degree. After Guilford, I received my master's degree from Elon University in Interactive Media. I then went to work at a social media marketing agency and then transitioned and worked at a more traditional creative ad agency before joining the GRCVB.
What do you find most appealing about working in the tourism industry?
I love traveling, exploring new places and sharing different experiences with friends and family; working in the tourism industry will allow me to be curious, educate others and work in an area that aligns with my passions. I look forward to learning more about the industry and working with people in the community to help highlight all the things Raleigh and Wake County have to offer!
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I am excited to explore and learn more about the area to better educate visitors about all the exciting things they can do when visiting Raleigh and Wake County. I'm also looking forward to creating fun content for social media while building new relationships with partners and local creators around the community.
What are some of your personal favorite places to visit in Raleigh and Wake County?
I enjoy walking around downtown Raleigh, the Fenton area and along the greenways. I also love visiting Barcelona Wine Bar and Salt & Lime Cabo Grill!
.......
GRCVB is as excited for Abigail to start as she is. We are looking forward to coordinating enhanced destination content throughout the year and getting Abigail out into the field to meet you all!
